Terrence antes

Born into a Welsh mining community in South Wales

Terrence was surrounded by music from an early age. By his early teens he was singing in local churches and concert halls. Soon he was preforming in venues all across Wales.

His deep bass-baritone voice came to the attention of a voice coach and he started his
music studies in earnest, with concert performances in the capital of Wales, Cardiff.

While studying Engineering in South Wales Terrence was also taking voice training and music lessons at the Royal College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where at 18 years of age he recorded Sarastro’s aria ‘ O Isis und Osiris from Mozart’s Die Zauberflote for EMI Records.

Then at only 19

He made his opera debut with the Welsh National Opera Company in Rossini’s Barber of Seville together with performances in I Lombardi and Nabucco. Then came the Easter Hymn (a chorus and one single male bass voice) in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana.

During the performance of Rusticana a talent scout from London was in the audience and offered Terrence an audition at Sadler’s Wells Opera (now the English National Opera Company) Successful he had the dilemma of whether to go on with his engineering studies or into opera. This was compounded by an audition at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, again successful with an offer to join the company. During this period he was approached to join the Carl Rosa Opera Company for a tour of Europe that year.

Terrence did film tests at Elstree and Bray Studios resulting in film parts.

He was also singing every Sunday at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge London.

His engineering studies completed Terrence joined a team of research engineers working on filtration methods for space projects, this helped pay for his continued voice training with the great English baritone Dennis Noble at the Guildhall School of Music in London and he was soon back on the stage.

Finally, parts in opera productions and straight acting followed.

Now

Terrence is a widower with two sons. After a number of years he now lives in Spain with his partner the artist Celia Vodden in a location that is ideal for projects in London, Europe and the rest of the World.
